This contract involved the provision of a new combined sewer and online storage solution to increase capacity within the existing sewer network to alleviate flooding in the Sicily & Marguerite Park residential areas.

The works included the construction of over 1.3km of large sewer pipes up to 1500mm in diameter, the construction of several launch, reception pits and extensive tunnelling (including under the main Belfast to Dublin rail line during live train services). Automated monitoring for potential railway settlement was carried out at 136 locations every four hours during the tunnelling operation.
Traditional ‘open dig’ excavation was also used due to the number of existing underground services in the residential streets.
