The scheme involved the construction and associated MEICA installations of a new WwTW within the confines of an existing WwTW and extended land take in Ballycastle.

The construction work included: pumping stations, Emergency Storage Tank, Inlet Screening works, Aeration Lanes, Final Settlement Tanks, Sludge Processing Facility and associated Holding Tanks, Control Building and 2 nr Control Kiosks.
A phased construction programme was required to maintain operation and treatment from the existing plant during construction of the new works. The design for the new works successfully included the flexibility to overcome the significant difference between winter and summer flows from 8,000 PE to 13,500 PE.
