The project also involved the installation of a new siphon and siphon chamber, improvements to the pipe network to increase the drawdown rate, the installation of a new footbridge across the spillway weir, and the on-site manufacture and assembly of key siphon components.
Refurbishment work was carried out to reinforce the embankments along with the installation of new toe drainage.
The works were carried out in an Area of Special Scientific Interest and involved the rerouting of a busy pedestrian walkway during construction. Extensive consultation during the design and construction phases, with a range of regulatory bodies, the local community, local sports and angling clubs helped ensure efficient and safe delivery of this key project.
